The HSE publish the following guidelines for the suggested number of appointed persons/First Aiders, but your individual requirements need to be ascertained by a Risk Assessment:

To maximise the survival rate of somebody that has suffered a cardiac arrest you need have early intervention. This is best described by the “The chain of survival” which has 4 links

We provide access to two links in that chain. Firstly, we supply the training that allows for early cardiac resuscitation (CPR) and secondly, through our agency with Medtronic Physio-Control - a leading manufacturer of AED equipment - we supply the means of delivering early defibrillation.

The range of training programmes are aimed at providing each of our family of delegates the knowledge and skills to handle both simple day to day crisis but also thankfully, the occasional medical emergency. Through this approach, we pass on the confidence to deal with each in a calm and professional manner.

First Aid at Work - HSE Approved 35/09

We offer the First Aid at Work suite of courses. In line with the new HSE guidelines this will be an initial 3 day course from 1st October 2009. The content is similar but due to changes and improvements in training delivery the duration has been reduced. The initial HSE approved certificate is valid for 3 years. Delegates must undertake a requalification course within this period.

The requalification course remains unchanged at 2 days. Delegates will need to produce a copy of their initial certificate before undertaking the requalification course. The HSE approved requalification certificate lasts for 3 years.

The HSE also suggests that as part of this major change that it recommends that delegates undertake a yearly refresher, however its format changes from between a ½ day to a full day dependent on course content.

Another major change is the introduction of a 1 day Emergency First aid at Work course which allows for organisations that have a low risk assessment environment, such as offices to have a First Aider, based around that assessment. The current Appointed Person still remains and primarily looks at incident management, basic life support and managing the First Aid kits but cannot provide First Aid. We provide assessments aimed at showing you how the potential injury looks making it easier for you to handle the real incident. Therefore, our courses are hands on rather than just regurgitated from a manual. We recommend that delegates do not wear designer clothing to our training programmes as they may react wrongly with these techniques.
